Charlotte NCSenate Finance Bill Similar to House Housing Stimulus
The House Stimulus Bill passed with a $7500 tax credit on home purchases, and the Senate Finance committee approved a similar measure extending the credits through September 1, 2009. Latest details on the Housing Stimulus Details are here. It could be still improved in the Conference Committee, and my hope is Congress will extend the credits through the December 31 of this year. The call should be simple-
Congress must act to increase demand for housing
express urgency in stopping the downward spiral of home values- Home Values are just like America’s saving accounts. With them go American spending, America’s confidence, and digs the economy into a deeper hole. House Purchase Tax Credits are the fastest way to increase demand.

Charlotte Home Sales, December 2008 to December2007, by units are off 34%. By volume, sales are about 55% of 2007 blevles. Average homes prices? Off by 11%. Average Sales to list? 90%

Cast my vote, Slumdog Millionaire is the Best Movie of The Year,
but Not just this past year, but the last 5 Years. Atleast.
A love story with fast moving action, Slumdog takes watchers on an inside trip into mysterious and brutal India. It makes you laugh, cry, want to throw up, and then, the hero overcomes all odds in his search for happiness and his one true love.  Modern India is on display, for all of its liveliness, wickedness and power.
The last movie that had such an impact? Schindler’s List. Blood Diamonds had a similar effect with a less attractive ending.

Inaugural Update
Many of you saw that we got last minute tickets but how we got them was quite a story. We had about resigned ourselves to Not going as our many requests for tickets had fallen on deaf ears… something about NC going Blue this year. We heard a brief announcement that Senator Kay Hagan would be distributing excess tickets Monday before inauguration; Amy, our youngest, or AmyMac as her friends know her, who goes to school a few miles from Senator Hagan’s office, agreed to go there and wait.
She was there early looking for 4 tickets. There were about 40 people ahead of her as she got out her homework and began to work before 9. She waited. After a while, she heard she could only get two tickets. They took her name, a copy of her NC License, and cell number- and told her they’d call her. She left and there were hundreds in line behind her.
About 1:00 she got the call that there would be 2 tickets for her, and she called us, and we congratulated her and told her to go get them and have fun with her roommate. Again, we resigned ourselves to not going.
Then about 3:00pm, she called us and told us that “She didn’t wake up early to get herself tickets, she went for us her Mom and Dad, and she could go with her friends out on the mall, and we needed to leave now and come up and use the tickets. We thought about it 5 minutes, and an hour later we left for Washington DC.
As bad an experience as some had, ours was much better. We met some great people along the way. We shared the day with a couple from St Louis, from the morning crush through the final song, and we are still in contact with them.
