Matthews NC- A Convenient and Comfortable Charlotte Suburb

Welcome to Matthews, NC, my former hometown,
and the place my children still call home.
I moved to Charlotte 16 years ago from the NYC area, then to Matthews in 1999 to change high school districts, moving into the well-regarded Providence High School district. Matthews is where the Charlotte suburbs meet the countryside. Close in Matthews is indistinguishable from Charlotte, the outer reaches have horses, cows and cornfields as it blends into neighboring communities of Weddington, Wesley Chapel, Indian Trail and Waxhaw in Union County.
Originally Matthews was a farming community with a rail stop…Â now it’s a great “small town” close to the city. What did my family like? The terrific library, terrific Renfrew’s Hardware (been there a century+/-), the farmers market, summer movies in the park, and music on the lawn at Stumptown park.
