Carolinas Aviation Museum – First in Flight and a First for Charlotte
TL;DR: The Carolinas Aviation Museum is a great activity for the whole family. Lots of aircraft plus changing exhibits make for a great experience.
If you’ve never been to the Carolinas Aviation Museum you’re missing out! This is a museum for aviation lovers but it’s really geared to the entire family. Standing exhibits detail the history of commercial, civilian, military airplanes and helicopters. The museum also has featured exhibits which change from time to time. The current featured exhibit is “Miracle on the Hudson” which displays the plane that Captain Sully was able to glide onto the Hudson River for an emergency landing saving the lives of all on board. j
The museum itself is located right next to Charlotte Douglas airport and general admission is $12 with discounts for children, seniors and veterans. There is no AC in the museum (a massive hangar) so the museum is best viewed while it’s cooler outside. The exhibits aren’t the only thing going on at the Carolinas Aviation Museum. It can also be rented out for business meetings or private parties. They also hold many educational events throughout the year including an aviation camp in the summer.
If you haven’t had a chance to visit the museum, I’d definitely recommend checking it out. It’ll take a few hours to see all you’d like to see and is obviously enjoyed most by folks with a love of history, or aviation, or both!
