Your Introduction to Charlotte - the Heart of the New South©

Charlotte NC| Mondays News, June 2- Lynx, Homearama and more

June 2nd, 2008 Listed Under: Charlotte News, Living Here

art at the TrademarkLynx light rail success in Charlotte has attracted statewide attention- is national attention next?

Lynx success is foundational to a new statewide transportation plan with rail at the center– a proposal to create a $1.6B fund that would match local transportation initiatives that has an important backer- former (still very powerful) highway commissioner, Sam Hunt. Interestingly, the 21st Century Transportation proposal came after a visit to Charlotte to get a first hand look at Lynx.

Sometimes called the father of NC Interstate, Hunts endorsement can not be overestimated. It is now one of the most “talked about initiatives in the Assembly… and will be up to the next Assembly to fund,” said the well-regarded Observer associate editor and blogger Jack Betts…we’ll be watching. Could this be an unintended consequence of the vicious anti-rail fight–to raise the visibility of Lynx success? He who laughs last– Ron Tober, former head of CATS and the victim of the maniacal over the top smear, must be smiling widely this morning…

I received two calls last week about this year’s Homearama. Typically in May and June, this years’s homebulders Homearama is in October… at the Ranch, the new custom equestrian village at the Palisades.

Politics is in the air–traveling through South Charlotte the last three days with clients and just out and about I counted about 15 Obama yard signs, 3 Hillary signs and just last night, I saw a McCain bumper sticker in the McCormick and Schmick lot at Southpark. North Carolina has been reliably Republican in national elelctions since Jimmy Carter. I think this state is in play with Obama at the head of a Democratic ticket. It would be good for NC to see the campaigns spend time and money here.

Who knew? The barefoot water skiing champion teaches advanced water skiing on Lake Wylie?

Did you see the Jetton Park post by guest blogger Kelli Robinson? She writes and lives at the top of Lake Norman in Mooresville. I’ll be adding bloggers to cover different parts of Charlotte- mostly in the Things to Do category, to giving more voices and more perspectives to Charlotte Communities …

Yesterday I went and saw a matinee of 12 Angry Men at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, Belk Theater, in Uptown. It’s basic lesson- don’t be too quick to judge– was not lost on my young adult daughters and was a welcome reminder to my wife and I. Great acting, great show at the Blumentha., 5th and N Tryon. Yesterday was its final day in Charlotte.
