I’d like to Call it Bike Week, like Shark Week, but it is two weeks of biking Celebrations in BikeCharlotte  Family BikingCharlotte, NC that began April 26.

Bikes and Passengers Ride FREE on CATS Buses and Lynx Trains- May 5-11th

Any passenger with a bike rides free on any CATS Bus or Lynx rail line from May 5- 11th. What a great way to get Uptown or around town…rack and ride for free!

Here are just a few of the biking events taking place this weekend:

Saturday-  10 am Ultimate Bicycle Social Ride at McAlpine Creek Greenway. Contact Mike at UltimateBike dot com.

Saturday 12 noon – Kids learn to Mountain Bike at Colonel Francis Beatty Park- Intro and Ride, Contact Patrick, Sun and Ski, 704-246-1930

Speed Week, a southeastern US racing tour makes its Charlotte debut in downtown Belmont Saturday May 4, 2-7. Saturday’s race is drawing professionals and olympic hopefuls from around the world,  and is one race in an 8 race 10 day series taking place in NC, SC and Georgia. Part of the US Crits Speed Week, short tracks, with many laps and a  $125,000 purse to the circuit winner, this race alone could draw several thousand spectators to downtown Belmont.

Don’t have your own bike? The you can take advantage of Charlottee’s Bike Share program, Charlotte B Cycle– free for up to 30 minutes of  rental daily, $ 8/24 hours,  and annually? It costs $65/year to rent quality bikes with baskets. You can rent the blue bikes from any of the 20 rental stations throughout the city located near Lynx stops, the bus station an as far as Johnson C Smith University, and return them to any station. Try them for up to 30 minutes for free!
