Even as winter hangs on a bit this week, spring is here in Charlotte. If you are like me, I’m anxious to get to work outdoors in the warm weather so that I can begin planting and sprucing-up around my home landscape. Perhaps you don’t have spring fever yet, or you are seeking some inspiration? Here are a several gardening events in the Charlotte area that are sure to inspire you.  And even if you don’t have a garden, these are fun outdoor activities that get your family out of the house and away from their electronic entertainment devices! The UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens Plant Sale

April 18th & 19th, Friday and Saturday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. This is the botanical gardens’ largest plant sale of the year. Not only is this one of the best places to learn about the best landscape plants, but it is an excellent way to support the maintenance and expansion of these public gardens for future generations.  You will find interesting and rare plants that may not be available to purchase at “big box” garden departments. UNCC Sale Phlox Knowledgeable and experienced staff and volunteers are on hand to answer questions and direct purchases for novice gardeners. And while you are on campus, be sure to tour the greenhouse and 10 acres of both native woodland and Asian themed gardens which are in peak bloom this time of the year. The outdoor gardens are open to the public during daylight hours and the greenhouse is open every day and weekend (except during select holidays). For more events information and directions visit:

Central Piedmont Community College – Horticulture Technology Spring Plant Sale

Central Piedmont Plant Sale

Friday, from 9:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday, April 26th from 9:00am to 12:00pm.  One will find a great selection of flowering annuals, garden vegetable seedlings and herbs. Ed Davis
Edward Davis is a licensed landscape architect with more than 30 years of design and project management experience. He currently works as Design Coordinator for a unique showcase garden for native plants at the UNC-Charlotte Botanical Gardens. Ed also teaches for the popular Certificate in Native Plant Studies program offered by the botanical gardens. He received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Georgia and has enhanced his original education with a second degree in Fine Arts from UNC-Charlotte.
