When the kids are out of school and the pets are getting anxious, it is the right time to check out all of the parks in the Queen City! To help you decide which parks to visit, I have compiled a list of my top five Charlotte Parks for your next outdoor adventures.

Have to Add a new one, the Romare Bearden Park in uptown- beautiful green intown location! Lovely

Freedom Park | Myers Park

Freedom Park Bridge

Freedom Park is a great park for Charlotteans looking for variety. The park is huge, boasting a 7-acre lake, sports fields, children’s play areas, a nature museum, an amphitheater and even a novelty steam engine. Any child (including myself) that has grown up visiting Freedom Park will remember exploring the big steam engine located near the jungle gym and swings. The park also has its own Charlotte Nature Museum, operated by Discovery Place. Freedom Park hosts the “Festival in the Park” annually, which is a five-day festival that happens every September.

Independence Park | Elizabeth

As the oldest park in Charlotte, Independence Park is a two for one deal. The park is divided into a northern side and a southern side. The northern side backs up to Elizabeth Traditional Elementary School! There are jungle gyms, fields, courts, and grassy hills to play on. On top of that there is an excellent view of the city skyline. The southern end of the park lies near Hawthorne Lane and has a more neighborhood-like element to it.

McMullen Creek Greenway | Quail Hollow

A walking, running, and biking haven, McMullen Creek Greenway is the perfect park to get out of the city and into the woods. Pet and bike friendly, the greenway is an 8 mile round-trip. The trail offers a variety of terrain with pit gravel, asphalt, and wood decking. Along the greenway there are many places to take detours down to the creek if you are into the nature scene. There are also benches used as mileage markers for those with weary legs. The park is very dog-friendly and features water fountains for both humans and pets!

Symphony Park | Southpark

When you get tired of window shopping at SouthPark Mall, there is a non-traditional park just a stone’s throw away. The park backs up to the SouthPark Mall parking lot but do not let that fool you – the park is a great spot to enjoy some music and sunshine! The Symphony Park gets its name for the centerpiece, which is a large symphony dome suspended over water. This is a wonderful place to lay down a quilt and watch a concert. The park is also very safe due to SouthPark Mall security. The Charlotte Symphony frequently plays here. Check out the Symphony Park concert schedule on their website.

Jetton Park

Jetton Park | Lake Norman

Jetton Park rests right on Lake Norman for tons of waterfront activities. The park features a gazebo that is perfect for lakeside parties or get-togethers. Tennis courts and a playground are available too, just in case the beach is not enough! The area can be rented out for wedding receptions that desire an island feel. Jetton park offers 104 acres of space for picnicking, sunning, and biking!
