Coming Soon to an Uptown Near You: The DNC
The DNC Brings National Spotlight, The Daily Show to Charlotte: Sept 4 – 6, 2012
Regardless of your political affiliation (or lack thereof), the Democratic National Convention coming to Charlotte is a very big deal. In a little less than two weeks, thousands will flock to the Queen City for the DNC. In addition to the convention schedule, there will be dozens of events and parties Uptown. The world will be watching, Charlotte needs to shine.
In addition to your typical convention festivities there will also be some significant road closures in Uptown during the convention.
The Charlotte Observer & Creative Loafing have done a great job of covering the news leading up to the DNC. The Charlotte Observer has some excellent DNC Google maps to help you find your way around Uptown during the convention. The map includes ATM locations, bars, coffee, hotels, dining, shopping & many other useful activities/hot spots.
The DNC will kick off on September 3rd with the free CarolinaFest. Similar to Speed Street celebrations, this is a family friendly event that begins at 10a.m. and runs through around 6pm. CarolinaFest is being held on Tryon St between Stonewall & Trade.
Many of the streets in Uptown Charlotte will be closed for part of the day or all day on September 4th and 6th. The City of Charlotte has released an interactive map to help people avoid the closures.
