Charlotte’s Best Public High Schools

Before we look at Charlotte’s Top High Schools,  a little background could be helpful here.   I  wrote my first education essay almost 30 years ago.  My wife is a life long educator, 20 years a teacher and 10 years a professor of education teaching teachers- we , as a family have been all about schools for the last 30 years, and have moved our family for better schools.

Providence HS

Our four children attended private schools  in suburban Maryland, Hoboken, NJ, and most of their K-8  time here in Charlotte.  We moved to Charlotte for a high quality school for our young family, then moved again as our oldest approached high school age  to be in the top high school district ( this was before  I was in real estate).

They  graduated from  Providence High School pictured above, the # 1 Ranked HS for College Preparedness, #3 overall.  They all graduated with Advanced Placement credits that would be accepted at their college.  Our 4 children graduated and went on to four year degrees atNorth Carolina State, the US Naval Academy, Rhodes College and George Washington University.   Two now have master degrees. All are gainfully employed and living good lives, all we parents can ask for.

Providence High School

US News and World Report ranks  high schools across the country, and in this slide show we get Charlotte’s 25 Best High Schools. A combination of Publics  and Charter’s, they measure graduation rates, college readines and more.  You will see schools spread geographically throughout the area.   If you as a parent and  stay involved, stay committed then I am very confident of a positive outcome. The top schools here are as good as any in the country. The  summary of Providence is on the left.

In North Carolina, when you buy a home, you are guaranteed a seat in your neighbood school. Usually these are visible on the Listing information.  (You can double check an address here)  It is always recomended you visit a school if at all possible.  CMS has an open door policy , vistors are always welcome.  In South Carolina, not all are guaranteed seats.  Check

There are also available, by application a wide-ranging sytem of Magnet Schools- these include language immersion schools, montessori schools, a school of the arts, STEM schools and many more. Your child can be taught in Chinese if you prefer!  In addition to Magnet Schools,  there are Charter schools, also available by application and sometimes lottery.  Your taxes pay for them all.

I am the owner and operator of CharlotteCommunitiesOnline.com and was inspired to create this website when I moved my young family of 6 down to Charlotte from the northeast, now over 20 years ago. Charlotte quickly became home to us and I wanted to create a website that would help individuals and families considering a move to Charlotte. I'm also the owner of The McDonald Group at eXp Realty (my day job) and have helped hundreds of folks relocate to Charlotte over the years.
