Asheboro, NC
The wonderful North Carolina Zoo sits tucked away in the small town of Asheboro, NC. Split into two sections, the park is divided between “Africa” and “North America” featuring animals, plant life, and learning material from each area of the world. This great attraction is only 2 hours away and is affordable, educational, and fun!
Africa
The southern section of the park is all about Africa and its amazing animals! Immediately upon entering the zoo, you are planted in the African grasslands where there are elephants, rhinos, lions, ostriches and many more. This zoo gives the visitor a rare look into the animal’s natural environment without cages or small confines. Visitors are comforted by the fact that they are able to see all of the animals how they would look naturally.
North America
After visiting the gorillas and aviary field, the Northern side of the park has animals that are closer to home. This side of the zoo features a desert, marsh and honey bee farm! Reptiles are around every corner, and if you’re lucky you may get to see a cougar or grizzly bear. Lastly, once you hit the “Rocky Coast” you will have the awesome chance to check out seals, puffins and a polar bear!
